The Mr Handsome of Japanese football, Hidetoshi Nakata, now retired, stars in this Editorial over at Mr Porter. Featuring the likes of Brioni, Beams +, Lanvin and Ralph Lauren, the 32 year old is looking pretty slick. Having spent he’s time after football travelling the world (over 100 countries he claims) Mr Nakata is looking to produce his own brand of that king of brews, Sake. “It would be cool to have one of the best sakes in the world. It’s like having a Château Mouton or Gaja – if you are the owner of that kind of wine. You go to good restaurants in London, in New York, and then you can order your own sake. That’s cool.”

Summer of Gatsby: 3 Ways to Prepare for the Coming Fashion Blockbuster
Posted: April 26, 2012 in Art & Style, MoviesTags: Great Gatsby, Great Gatsby movie
This summer is about to play host to what is certainly one of the most anticipated movies in recent film, and even novel, history – The Great Gatsby. Attaching three of the top stars in Hollywood to the adapted film version of a book that the Modern Library labeled the “second best English-language novel of the 20th Century,” is a sure-fired recipe for success – or at least for high opening numbers. And you can also bet your bottom dollar that the film, which like the novel is set in the “roaring” 1920s, will be a hot button for summer fashion this year as well; with actress Carey Mulligan, and actors Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio starring, it’s pretty much a guarantee. Here we explore three trends likely to be effected by the upcoming film.
Shirts

The 1920s was a time of prosperity. America’s post-World War 1 economy was booming, and while men were just starting to wear less formal athletic attire in informal settings, nice suits and fine dress shirtswere the typical threads of the day. Look for classic cotton dress shirts in whites, light pastels, or conservative stripes to be making a big splash in the fashion world this summer.
Ties

In the 20s, ties were a must. If you were wearing a suit, you were wearing a tie. As opposed to the current tie-to-waist trend of today, men in the 20s often wore their ties a touch shorter, and a bit on the thicker side. Tie pins were also very common back in Gatsby’s day, and you can bet that the movie will boast one or two of these little bad boys, although you’ll probably have to look closely to catch it.
Hats

Opposite the women’s fashionable cloche hats of the times, the men almost always wore a classic fedora or Panama hat, which have obviously begun resurfacing already as a popular trend in the last couple of years. A nice hat can really put the final touch on a great classic outfit, and once again, it would be extremely surprising, if not blatantly historically inaccurate, if the coming Gatsby film didn’t portray them in spades. A nice light wool or straw fedora is usually fitting with most suits or shirts.
So with all the warm summer parties you’ve got planned coming into view, make sure your on your dapper 20s best, and have a couple choice outfits ready to go. Not only will you like the way you look, but you can bet the ladies will too. After all, every girl’s crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.
